This example has been a staple at West Michigan car shows for well over a decade. The current owner's aren't able to enjoy it like they used to so it's now time to pass it on to a new owner. The car is finished in a two-tone Regency Purple and White paint scheme with a custom louvered hood and custom power-release trunk. Both original hood and original trunk do come with the car too. It is an older restoration so the paint is starting to showing it's age; however, the chrome and stainless surfaces are in excellent condition. The interior also stands tall for its age. The car is powered by the original U-Code 272ci/162hp 2bbl V8 engine mated to the three-on-the-tree manual transmission with rear-wheel drive. The first year (1955) thunderbird was a tremendous success selling 16,155 cars compared to just 700 corvette's sold. The 1955 to 1957 years were just 2-seaters and remained that way until 2002, which were modeled after the 1st generation thunderbirds whom many believe are the pinnacle of the line. The 1955 model had a removable hardtop with a 102-inch wheelbase chassis that was 175. 3 inches overall, with a width of 72 inches and a height of 52 inches. Curb weight was 2833 pounds. The ford thunderbird was the first 2-seat ford since 1938 and was in direct response to the chevrolet corvette that was displayed at the 1953 new york auto show. Something that was lightweight with a v8 engine, although fast enough was geared more on the driver comfort than speed. This car has both and the soft top is nearly new. Another great feature is the power windows and power seat. Although the radio looks period it is a brand new unit with great sound. With no corners cut, the mechanical side is equally impressive as the exterior.
